(Botox, Dysport, Xeomin)
Botox (Neurotoxin) is a prescription medication that is injected into specific muscles to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles. The most common targets are horizontal lines across the forehead and perpendicular frown lines between the brows (“The Elevens”), the wrinkles around the eyes (Crow’s feet), and the nasal squint lines (“Bunny lines”). Great results are also seen smoothing a dimpled chin and fine lines in the upper lip.
Botox works by selectively blocking the transmission of overactive nerve impulses preventing a muscle contraction. Results from this procedure are temporary, generally lasting 3 to 6 months.
Other neurotoxin brands include Dysport and Xeomin, which may be used in place of Botox if requested by the client. Botox can also be used in lieu of surgery to fix “turkey neck,” smoothing the appearance of vertical neck bands.
